Alexis Choplain
Making electricity his primary material, Alexis Choplain develops a machinic poetry that reveals the invisible and alters our perception. Over many years, he has built devices made of water, light, and electricity, testing the limits of our senses. Today, he works mainly with sound and analog electronics, considering sound as a vibratory phenomenon through which to explore matter, space, and electricity. His synthesizers, built since 2018, manifest the electrical choreographies structuring his projects within his installations.
His work has been presented at international festivals, art centres, and institutions, including Dark Rooms Festival (Berlin, Germany), KIKK Festival (Namur, Belgium), Festival ]Interstice[ (Caen, France), FRAC Grand Large (Dunkirk, France), the Biennale des arts numériques (Mons, Belgium), Musée L (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium), and City Sonic Festival (Mons, Charleroi, Belgium), and has received several creation grants from DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the City of Caen (France)
