If there’s an artist whose work channels, reshapes and re-embodies the wide scope of Bristol’s vast electronic music legacy and takes it even further, that’s Batu. Through his own productions and his Timedance label, he is carving out a signature sonic aesthetic, continually pushing the boundaries of UK bassbin principles and re-positioning Bristol at the centre of global bass-minded music culture.

Following his debut release on Pinch’s Cold Recordings in 2013, a series of 12″s and EPs on labels including Hessle Audio, Livity Sound, Hotline and his own Timedance eventually led to the creation and release of his game-changing EPs “Rebuilt” (XL Recordings, 2018) and “False Reeds” (Timedance, 2019), the latest of these: a kaleidoscopic and future-facing vision of what dance music can (or should) be in 2019.

Commissioned by MIRA, Batu will do the honours of closing the main stage on one of the nights, playing one of his mind/body-bending DJ sets alongside specially created live visual work by Russian 3D/digital artist Leeza Pritychenko.
