Daito Manabe
Daito Manabe is a Japanese artist, programmer and composer who explores the intersections between technology, music, image and physical expression. Born in Tokyo in 1976, he studied mathematics at Tokyo University of Science, where the influence of Iannis Xenakis sparked his interest in algorithmic composition and generative systems.
In 2006, he founded Rhizomatiks, a platform through which he has developed performances, installations and technological research projects presented internationally at festivals including Sónar, MUTEK and TodaysArt. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, Squarepusher, Arca, Nosaj Thing and Perfume.
In recent years, his research has focused on the relationship between biological systems and machines, working with biofeedback and cultured neural cells in collaboration with neuroscientists. He is also cofounder of Sonic Planet LTD., dedicated to developing experimental software and generative audio tools, and leads Studio Daito Manabe, a studio combining human specialists with creative processes driven by artificial intelligence.
