Debit

Debit is the project of Delia Beatriz, a Mexican American composer, producer and DJ based in New York. Her practice connects electronic experimentation, archival research and music technologies, moving between ancient acoustics, hardware, digital synthesis and machine learning.

Works such as Animus (2018) and System (2020) reframe different Latin American club traditions from an experimental perspective. Pneumatic rhythms, tribal guarachero and industrial techno textures become materials for investigating the relationships between technology, identity and social context.

With The Long Count (2022), Debit explored Mayan wind instruments, using artificial intelligence to digitally recontextualize this sonic archive. The result is an electroacoustic work connecting past and future, consolidating a career presented at events including Berlin Atonal, Roskilde, the Whitney Biennial and the Venice Biennale.
