Julia Reidy

Australian guitarist and composer Julia Reidy, who has been based in Berlin for a decade, makes music for acoustic and processed instruments, mostly guitars.

Her latest records – In Real Life (2019), Vanish (2020), and World in World (2022), released on Oren Ambarchi’s Black Truffle and Editions Mego – can be described as a series of non-traditional song forms that combine volatile harmonic territories, rhythmic elasticity, and abstract narrative over elongated, episodic shapes. In them, Reidy has drawn on an ever-widening sonic palette, enriching guitar-based composition with electronic music, field recordings, and, most surprisingly, heavily autotuned vocals.

Her next solo album, Trances, will be released this autumn on Shelter Press to coincide with their performance at MIRA, where we can expect a visceral and cathartic experience.
