LIVE

FROM EGYPT WITH LOVE

Producer, vocalist and sound artist from Cairo, her debut album radically reinvents the popular music of her native country from the early 19th century and explores new sonic and harmonic frontiers, creating haunting sound pieces and compositions that hijack the perception of time with complex layers and dynamic structures and she will be at MIRA 2024 presenting it.

Nadah El Shazly is an Egyptian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and experimental producer. His work radically reinvents the popular music of his native country at the beginning of the 20th century and explores new sonic and harmonic frontiers.

Shazly began to make a name for himself with his electronic productions. At the end of 2015, he began working on his debut album. She produced it herself and featured keyboardist and guitarist Maurice Louca (from indie supergroup Lekhfa) and Sam Shalabi, two-thirds of the Dwarfs of East Agouza (the third member, Alan Bishop, did not appear on the LP). Recorded in Egypt and Montreal (with engineer Thierry Amar of Godspeed You! Black Emperor), the album was comprised of five originals and a radically revised version of Sayyid Darwish’s ’40s pop standard “Ana ‘Ishiqt (I Once Loved). )”; The ensemble was completed with a large cast of reed, woodwind, string and percussion players. He self-released Ahwar, his debut album, in November 2017 to universal acclaim from the press and featured on numerous best-of-the-year lists.
