Nivhek: ENGINE

LIVE A/V

Nivhek is the project of Liz Harris, aka Grouper, Pacific Northwest musician and producer who has become one of the most respected figures in ambient music over the millennium.

Accompanied by a film by Japanese experimental director Takashi Makino, at MIRA she will present the live performance of ENGINE, a piece composed from the noise of train and car engines from drag races at Portland International Raceway and the North Portland railway tracks, synth and other electronics.

ENGINE is the result of her decade-long obsession with engine noise. The sound of excess, power, sex, destruction, capitalism, of oil becoming an airborne pollutant, of transformation, of life. Guttural bass and rev a mirror of organic rhythms – mimicking heartbeats, blood rushing. A spiral ode to symbiotic decay.
