Roly Porter + MFO present KISTVAEN

LIVE A/V

Friday 08, Nov

In terms of A/V projects, we’d be hard pressed to name a more iconic duo than Roly Porter and MFO (aka Marcel Weber). Both ground-breaking artists in their own right, Roly Porter is known for his releases on Subtext and Tri Angle, as well as having been one half of legendary dubstep duo Vex’d. Meanwhile, MFO is widely recognised for his A/V collaborations with artists such as Ben Frost, Liz Harris (Grouper/Nivhek), Tim Hecker and Kuedo.

Following a series of awe-inspiring A/V collaborations between the two artists, including acclaimed performances at CERN, Unsound and MIRA 2016, they return to Barcelona to present a brand new show co-commissioned by Berlin Atonal, Unsound and MIRA: Kistvaen. In there own words: “Kistvaen is a performance piece that contrasts primordial motifs—elements and seasons, sun and moon, gods and magic—with that of the 21st century—life in designed environments and an evolving virtual existence… Our pagan roots and technology-driven present are inextricably interwoven.”

The performance will feature music composed by Roly Porter which blurs the boundaries between field recording, folk instrumentation and digital sound processing, along with ritual burial songs sung live by vocalist Mary-Anne Roberts, while MFO’s scenography will blend subliminal stage and lighting effects with cinematic imagery.
