Ryoichi Kurokawa

Ryoichi Kurokawa is a Japanese artist based in Berlin and a leading figure in contemporary audiovisual creation. His practice takes multiple forms, ranging from installations and recordings to concert pieces, exploring the relationship between sound, image, space and time.

Using field recordings and digitally generated structures, Kurokawa constructs what he describes as time sculptures: audiovisual phenomena reconstructed with architectural precision, transforming data, landscapes and matter into immersive experiences.

His work has been presented at institutions and festivals including Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, the Venice Biennale, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Palais de Tokyo, Ars Electronica, MUTEK and Sónar. In 2010, he received the Golden Nica at the Prix Ars Electronica in the Digital Musics and Sound Art category.
