Exclusive audiovisual shows

UK musician and DJ Floating Points will present a new A/V show in which he will perform new material set to be released in the near future, and will do so accompanied by visual work created by Barcelona-based visual production studio Hamill Industries, regular Floating Points collaborators.

Clark, the UK techno and IDM legend, will present a live A/V show focused on new productions as well as some of his already classic tracks released during his 18-year career. The show, curated by the festival, will feature visual work created exclusively by Slovak artist, photographer and art director Evelyn Bencicova.

Together with Berlin Atonal festival, we curate “Kistvaen”, the new A/V show with music by Roly Porter, the voice of Mary-Anne Roberts and visuals by MFO, a mix of subliminal effects and lighting with cinematographic images.

Blanck Mass (half of Fuck Buttons) will present his fourth album “Animated Violence Mild”, set to be released in August. An album that he defines as the diary of a year full off with self-discovery and pain. Dan Tombs—collaborator of Jon Hopkins or James Holden—will be in charge of the visuals. The show will be a Spanish premiere.

Batu—one of the artists responsible for re-positioning Bristol at the centre of global bass music culture thanks to his Timedance label—will be responsible for closing the main stage with a DJ set accompanied by live visuals created specially by Russian 3D/digital artist Leeza Pritychenko. A show curated by MIRA.

700 Bliss, formed by Moor Mother on the mic and DJ Haram on production—both heavily involved in the Philadelphia underground music and political activism scene—will present their first release “Spa 700” (Halcyon Veil / Don Giovanni Records, 2018), an EP made up of elements of noise, rap, dub, grime, industrial techno, afrofuturism and ambient music, with powerful words, sounds and samples.

New media artist CLON (aka Estela Oliva) and electronic music producer NWRMNTC (aka Ana Quiroga, formerly of LCC) will present “META”, an immersive A/V performance that invites the viewer to explore a parallel reality, an immersive journey to an unknown future inspired by science fiction narratives and cyberpunk aesthetics.

Catalan composer and pianist Marina Herlop will present her latest work in which the artist fully opens up to the possibilities of electronics. The visuals will be carried out by iTUNES10.2.

Espai Zero, the stage dedicated to dance music

The Nihiloxica group, formed by Ugandan percussionists Nilotika Cultural Ensemble and UK-based producers PQ (synths) and Spooky-J (drums), will present their latest work, “Biiri”, released by Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Tapes: a record that fuses the euphoria of indigenous Bugandan percussion with the darkness of European club music. A live intercultural experiment.

Insanlar, the Turkish group led by DJ and producer Baris K, multi-instrumentalist Cem Yıldız and drummer Alican Tezer, will present their new work “Demedin Mi” (Rush Hour): a 45-minute techno-folk epic divided into two parts that mixes Anatolian psych-rock and cosmic disco.

Giant Swan, the electronic power duo born from the Bristol underground scene and formed by Robin Stewart and Harry Wright, will play a live show marked by their characteristic mantric techno, hypnotic bass, synthesizers, industrial percussion and disorienting voices.

DJ Marcelle will perform a DJ set and will do so with her unique style of playing on three decks. With a collection of more than 15,000 vinyl records, DJ Marcelle mixes dub, breaks, industrial music, hip hop, African/Caribbean music, etc. with current electronic music. A set without stylistic restrictions and without rules.

And finally, Sevilla-born Barcelona-based DJ Troya Modet will play a set that will travel through the ethnicities of electronic music.

More immersive large-format installations

The festival will feature the world premiere of “Obsidiorium”, an immersive multisensory installation created by AUDINT—abbreviation for Audio Intelligence: a research group that experiments in peripheral areas of sound and investigates its impact on psychological states, formed by producer Steve Goodman (aka Kode9), writer and theorist Eleni Ikoniadou, digital artist Patrick Defasten, sonology researcher Souzanna Zamfe and digital researcher Toby Heys.

Visual artist and director Rick Farin will present “Breach Act”, his first large-format installation, an investigation into the relationship between technology, nature and materiality, in which he will use a video game engine to immerse viewers in a world transformed by climate change.

A group of students from ELISAVA Barcelona School of Design and Engineering will present “Alice”, an artistic installation that confronts the pedestrian who, from the ground, is overwhelmed by the dimensions of the surrounding buildings, and who feels lost and disoriented in the architectural labyrinth of great urban centres. The installation, which will occupy an exterior space at Fabra i Coats, was presented at the last edition of the Llum Barcelona festival and received widespread praise.

Afterparty at Razzmatazz

On Saturday 9 November we will celebrate the Afterparty in Razzmatazz club. The event’s programme will feature Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Lena Willikens, resident of the Salon des Amateurs club, and Barcelona-based DJ and Hivern Discs label manager Alicia Carrera, playing a B2B DJ set in which they will offer a sonic journey that will transport the listener to unexplored terrain.

In addition, Madrid-based DJ and producer Parallax, member of the multidisciplinary collective Geométrika FM and believer in the “Techno to change the world” motto, will offer a DJ set focused on IDM and electro.
